It’s a big crescent and gives a space to rest your arms while keeping your work up high enough to still work on. It can be clipped behind your back too so it doesn’t shift. Finally, do you have a neck brace? Not a soft one but a rigid one. Helps a ton with cervical instability but you’re supposed to limit how long you wear it so you don’t further weaken your neck muscles.
