I’m sorry to hear this happened to you. I’m glad y’all are getting back on your feet. The big name companies aren’t producing at the same quality per dollar as some of the newer companies. Tents from OneTigris, Naturehike, MC Tomount, Teton Outdoors, etc are producing quality gear with excellent HH ratings for the same price as a large Ozark Trail tent. (Nothing wrong with Ozark Trail in some good weather camping.) This is my favorite tent right now, but could be small for your whole family as it’s maybe a foot larger each direction than a queen sized mattress. https://a.co/d/00wDoy3L I would look for a tent that has at least a 2000 mm HH rating on the fly and at least 3000 mm on the floor. Maybe this Naturehike Village would fit the bill for you. It gets good reviews. https://a.co/d/03dXBVeK The Outdoor Gear Review says it’s good. I trust Luke’s opinion 100%. https://youtu.be/U81eS-pd8Sk?is=Gpz4G4WzUMRkwvwf ——— If I was buying cooking pans again I would want these with a removable handle. https://a.co/d/05pDzQcD Obv if you want to cook on the fire you’re looking at cast iron. ———— I can’t over-emphasize how comfortable these Lost Horizon mattresses are. Better sleep than my bed at home. Seriously. Sometimes I set it up in my office to sleep. https://a.co/d/04wabt1z ——— Chairs just get some cheap folders from your nearest big box store. There’s nothing super innovative out there except for backpackers’ chairs with the Helinox Chair Zero and similar. Not for frontcountry camping IMHO. ——— Sleeping bags are very personal to the sleeper so it’s hard to recommend something without knowing how you toss and turn and hot or cold sleeper, etc. Quilts are popular these days but seeing as I think you’re not backpacking, I’d rather have material on my back than directly on the pad or hammock if I had the choice. For hammocks I recommend OneWind, Hennessy, or Hammock Gear. I hope others on the thread can have some good sleeping bag recs for you. ——— These Sofirn lanterns are awesome. Wurkkos also makes good lights. https://a.co/d/05Gxw4zu ——— AquaQuest makes the best tarps. Paracord is still the standard for cordage. A solar generator is great like from Jackery or Bluetti. ——— Mesh fire pits. These are freaking awesome. Set up in minutes. Throw on a duraflame log, and you’re good to go for like 2-3 hours. Awesome to have a fire while you’re setting up. Just don’t cook on the duraflame. https://a.co/d/0iGjJBnZ ——— Last big ticket item is a stove. Personally I like to keep it “old school” with the classic 2 burner Coleman. https://a.co/d/0hJDvon But also this Gas One is great for the price. https://a.co/d/02MbrCdy ——— Anyway, that’s about all I can think of for very broad suggestions. Lmk if you want a specific gear rec and I’ll send you one. Otherwise I hope the other folks in the thread come through with some good info.
