Hi! I would reccomend that whoever is going to take care of the tank; to read about the nitrogen cycle and how to do a fish in cycle in this case. The heater and filter are absolutely necessary. See below for a link to the sponge filter. Get bacteria starter culture like seachem stability and water dechlorinator like seachem prime. Partial water changes of up to 50% the total water volume will need to be made the first weeks almost every other day; ideally via dripping (see link below) . Get an api freshwater master test kit to test for ammonia and Nitrites regularly. Good luck OP Water change via dripping to reduce stress to the fish sponge filters are affordable and great for bettas; it requires a small air pump

Hi! As some people have mentioned already it is very important for your Betta's health to learn about the nitrogen cycle and how to do a fish in cycle in this case. The heater and filter are absolutely necessary. It seems you already have the filter. Read about how to best set biofiltration. Keeping a good beneficial bacteria health in the tank and the filter is the best way to ensure your fish will have a good quality of life. I added at the bottom a link about filtration in tanks Do you have a heater?. Have fun OP! Fish keeping is complex but very rewarding if done right Water change via dripping to reduce stress to the fish in depth video about aquarium filtration; the most important aspect of fish keeping

You can find the liquid kit here. The nitrate one is a pain. Make sure you shake the heck out of bottle 2 and the tube itself gets shaken a lot. It’s the only one that’s finicky about needing to be shaken thoroughly. For food, Fluval Bug Bites for Bettas and Hikari Betta Bio-Gold are the pellets that have the best nutritional value for bettas. Their stomachs are small so you want to feed them the size of their eye ball (which is the size of their stomach) twice a day. I use Fluval and soak them in tank water first to try and prevent bloating. It’s also good to mix in some live/frozen foods. I do frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, (these are treats) and mine refused frozen daphnia which sucked since I had to put so much effort into finding it from a local pet store. Frozen mysis shrimp are nutritional enough to be a staple if you end up with a picky brat that refuses pellets, along with the bloodworms and brine shrimp. These packages come in little portion blocks, I have a special sharp knife I use to shave off a sliver of the portion. I wrap the left over up in plastic wrap and then aluminum foil and that keeps it until I’ve used it all. I fold them different ways so I know which one is which. Freeze dried foods aren’t recommended since bettas have a lot of issues with bloating.

Bettas are not as tough as they used to be due to inbreeding; so whatever frame of reference your employer is using it's out of date. I would skip the mystery snail in 2.5 gallons. Six cherry shrimp can work if the tank is cycled and stable. The API Freshwater Master Test Kit is useful because it checks ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH before livestock.
