I'm slowly refinishing all the baseboards, stairs, built-ins, and window trim in my 1932 house. I'm stripping stain and shellac, so different than paint, but here are some tools and other things that work for me. Chemical peelers- I've tried a bunch, but what works best for me is Citrustrip. I brush it on, cover it with cellophane overnight, and then start scraping Scrapers- Bahco Ergo Carbide Blade Scraper w/ 2-1/2" blade. This can take a lot off at once, but the edge can also get into hard-to-reach tiny corners.https://www.amazon.com/Bahco-Premium-Ergonomic-Carbide-Scraper/dp/B000288LP6 - Bahco 625 carbide scraper, 1" -- similar, but smaller, triangle-shaped bladehttps://www.amazon.com/Bahco-625-scraper-belt-holder/dp/B001G9SPBU - Contour scraper with a set of different-shaped, stainless steel blades for curved or decorative window trim profileshttps://www.amazon.com/ALLWAY-Soft-Grip-Contour-Scraper-Stainless/dp/B000BQMZ9C - Cabinet scraper cards - these are crazy helpful for old houses because oftentimes contour scrapers don't fit older trim profileshttps://www.amazon.com/DFM-Blue-Curved-Cabinet-Scraper/dp/B07S2DT3K5https://www.amazon.com/HERMIT-TOOLS-Multi-Shaped-Small-Sized-HTCSCS13/dp/B0D5J7ZP5V - Dental tools - for when you have to get into tiny corners or very small spaceshttps://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Remover-Cleaning-Hygiene-Personal/dp/B09WCYDDLS - 9-in-1 painter's toolhttps://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-Painters-Carbon-Steel-Handle/dp/B07DF46NW9 Sanders & Dust Collection- If you can swing it, get a Surfprep 3x4 sander that's vacuum compatible. It will make your life 1000% easier. - I was using a shop vac for dust collection, but since I'm doing a whole house, I splurged and got a Festool Dust Collector. Never going back. - Hook & loop profile sanding blocks - also useful for trim shapeshttps://www.amazon.com/Dura-Gold-20-Piece-Contoured-Profile-Sandpaper/dp/B0C1KJLS4T - Soft hook and loop foam sander backing pad -- lets you use your sander on curved surfaceshttps://www.amazon.com/Dimsile-Sanding-Interface-Backing-Compatible/dp/B0CWNQSLYJ Sandpaper- Xtract Cubitron II Hookit Clean Sanding Discs. There is no comparison. They are incredible. I get the 5" ones in 80, 120, 180, and 220 grits and cut them down to fit my Surfprep or sanding blocks.https://www.amazon.com/3M-Cubitron-Preparation-Refining-Featheredge/dp/B00MYU23Y0 Hope some of these are helpful!
