We use a stainless steel litter box. I technically bought a large cooking pan. It was deeper than the metal litter boxes. We use walnut cat litter. My adult son has the cat so he's not perfect about maintaining box. He does clean out daily. I don't notice any smells and I'm particularly sensitive to scents.
