I own the Gearwrench GWSMARTBT. Its a bluetooth OBD2 transmitter that works with an app on the phone. Not as fast as a dedicated tablet but it comes with free lifetime updates and the feature list is impressive. It will do TCU relearn on most of the popular Subaru's as well. I'm seeing it for under $100 at Walmart - https://www.walmart.com/ip/Kd-Tools-GWSMARTBT-Professional-Bi-directional-Diagnostic-Scan-Tool/13625859517 Amazon has it for $106. https://www.amazon.com/GEARWRENCH-Professional-Bi-Directional-Diagnostic-GWSMARTBT/dp/B0DBJGKGB7?th=1
Define inexpensive. I am a fan of the Gearwrench bidirectional dongle, which is like $100 on amazon. I used it to both monitor my trans temp and also do a CVT relearn when I serviced my 2017 OBW. It’s not super fancy but is more than just a code reader. My Subaru is out of warranty, so I do all the work. It’s been invaluable for that. https://www.amazon.com/GEARWRENCH-Professional-Bi-Directional-Diagnostic-GWSMARTBT/dp/B0DBJGKGB7
Just recalibrates the Transmission Control Module. I have also read that doing the relearn on the fluid change is overkill, but with the hesitation off the line and unknown service history, I felt it was a good move. The scan tool is also just over $100 on amazon, so why not, good excuse for a new toy. https://a.co/d/0hBCMKxB
Gearwrench GWSMARTBT https://a.co/d/00Vlk6f1 It's bidirectional. I haven't used it much yet and unsure if what it does with the EVAP system. It's on sale right now though. $107+tax
