This smokes the steam machine, has more ram, 1tb storage, is a bit smaller than the ps5. Gotta buy a controller. It’s an Nvidia card so can’t use SteamOS yet, but Bazzite or cachy should work for an OS. https://a.co/d/09wR4QZ6

I don’t know much about pc gaming compared to a lot of people, but yeah, I don’t think you’ll get a 5080 for $1500. But this is the most comparable console looking mini pc that’s even ballpark in that power level: https://a.co/d/00dopj31 Digital foundry also had a lot of good things to say about this at $2000: https://www.gmktec.com/products/amd-ryzen%E2%84%A2-ai-max-395-evo-x2-ai-mini-pc Those are pretty much what I imagine the helix could be like. If I had the money, that’s what I’d buy and just stick with them for years to make it easy on myself.

Doesn’t make sense if you look at what they wanted from it. A high end mini PC that’s in a console form factor that runs games about as well as a series x costs about $1500. https://a.co/d/03L822G0 And that’s without a controller. So if they wanted to go above that, it would quickly start to get more and more expensive cause those pieces in such a small case are the very items that are being snatched up for ai stuff. It would be a minimum of $1400 and honestly, it’s probably more than that. I’ve been saying closer to $2000 for awhile and always catch flak for it, but this article has her quoted as saying “thousands.”

I’ll just copy/paste my reply from your last message that said that before you deleted it: This is a weird thing to focus on. Has there ever been a new console generation that wasn’t significantly stronger than the pro version of the previous generation? Is the next generation gonna be weaker? Or the same power level? Besides that, it’s been widely reported by insiders what they’re targeting. Jez Cordon has said helix will be a a high end PC with the Xbox mode on it. And Xbox themselves have said this: “the largest technical leap you will have ever seen in a hardware generation.” “very premium, very high end” Here’s a console sized mini windows PC that is about as powerful as a PS5 Pro that you can buy right now: https://a.co/d/07R3ZryI So even if they’re only targeting a PS5 Pro’s power level, that’s around where the target price will be.

If helix is a PC with that Xbox mode automatically installed, it’s a PC with windows. There’s comparable console sized mini PCs out on the market right now that are about as powerful as the series x and they cost about $1500, without a controller too. https://a.co/d/0eZ56IaG Microsoft can probably get it a little cheaper, but they can only move that number around so much in today’s world.

HeartInTheSun9 posted on r/consoles3w

The helix will most likely be $2000. It’s not gonna be a console/pc hybrid. It’s gonna be a pc with the Xbox full screen experience version of windows automatically installed. And it’ll run the PC version of all the current gen Xbox games and emulate the past gen games. There’s already console sized mini PCs available to buy right now that play at about PS5 level and they go for about $1500. Like the minisforum g1 pro: https://a.co/d/06rzuhIO So if it’s a next gen powered PC with a controller packed in, it basically has to be above that price. Maybe Microsoft can find ways to squeeze the price down a little more than those brands, but there’s only so much they can do in today’s world. They can’t S their way down in price since PC’s need to be notably more powerful than consoles in terms of specs to run at console levels. The PS6 will probably be about as powerful as the helix, but will probably be several hundred dollars cheaper since that’s how it works with closed systems. To put it in perspective, a PS4 level mini PC runs at about $600. https://a.co/d/0cThoYAj Again, without a controller though. So the levels are there already. The steam machine can probably push stuff around since they can probably aim at somewhere between a PS4 and ps5, but the helix seemingly has to be above a PS5/Series X.
