I had a vertical incision which might also be a factor, but I was able to drive a lot sooner than I thought I would (I think around 2.5-3 weeks). I did use either a rolled up jacket or my recovery pillow for at least 6 weeks after surgery anytime I was in my car to keep the seatbelt from making things uncomfortable. Obviously nothing was entirely comfortable, but I didn’t find driving any more uncomfortable than just sitting. Obviously I wasn’t on narcotics, just Tylenol and ibuprofen. Every body is different so just listen to yours. However I second everyone in this thread encouraging a pillow. I used this one and literally wore it around my neck like a lanyard for MONTHS. useful for whenever you have to cough, sneeze, or laugh to support my stomach. Helped keep my dog and nephews from jumping on me. Obviously driving. But also I alternated heating pad and ice pack (mostly heat) in the designated pouch and it was a lifesaver.

I just had my surgery on Thursday, and I’ve been using this hysterectomy pillow multiple times a day. I used it on the car ride home after surgery and put my seatbelt over it. It also comes with a gel pack that you can freeze or heat up: https://a.co/d/0cKTMUNG Also, I had my husband install toilet safety rails and they’ve allowed me to go to the bathroom independently: https://a.co/d/0cViXmDu I’ve also been using my reacher-grabber frequently to pick up things that I need from the floor. I recommend buying some cough drops and bringing them in your hospital bag. Your throat will be dry post surgery and it will not feel pleasant to cough. Good luck with your surgery. You got this!
