You just gotta be annoyed. Toddlers require an annoying amount of stuff and things to leave the house. Our meals/snacks/bottles/sometimes toys/extra layers all take up WAY more space than the potty, to be fair. The food alone takes up the majority of our bag space. The potty's like 10-20% space wise, max, of everything we have to bring for even just a couple hours. Had me really appreciating his babyhood. But definitely get a "travel" or "portable" model. We have an Oxo which we like as it's secure, has nice grooves, and doubles as an outdoor potty when on the trail far from a real potty. Relatively compact, but we still have such minimal space it's annoying. I'll add that we keep a pair of socks, underwear, and pants in our bag in a size one too small (or the least favorite) that'll still kind of fit well enough to get home. If you have an accident for the first time in 6 months, you'll be grateful you have something.

My kiddo struggled with constipation until we bought a little potty! The angle helps tremendously - just like how adults use the Squatty Potty. I agree with using both. I tried a LOT of options - we ended up loving the Baby Bjorn little potty and the same brand insert. We did away with the little one when kiddo had a growth spurt and we could tell it was too small and awkward for him. The Baby Bjorn was so easy to clean, and that was my biggest fear, too. Antibacterial wipes are the way to go. Also, buy them a step stool with handles for the potty. Helps them feel secure and helps with the poop situation I mentioned earlier!
