So, there’s the usual safety stuff. First off all, anal play should *never* be painful! So, if anything hurts, back off. Never, ever “push through the pain.” That’s how you get hurt. And a negative early experience can put you off of it longterm. Depending on how much experience you have with fingers and plugs, the first time you have a dildo in can be kind of intense. After all, it may be a completely new feeling. Some folks say they feellike they need to go. Don’t panic. Just go slow and use lots of lube. Assuming you’re using an appropriately sized toy (maybe 1.3 inches in diameter and 5 or 6 inches in length) starting out is almost entirely about getting your body to relax. So, IMO, it helps to make sure you make the atmosphere as relaxed as you can. Privacy is very helpful. If you have your house or apartment to yourself for a while, that helps a ton. I like to put on music. I sometimes go for a scented candle. If you’re going to play on your bed, make sure you have a large towel or something under you to keep the sheets clean. I like this bed mat, which is made for people with incontinence but makes an ideal sex pad. Start with short sessions—a few minutes is fine. And make sure you can comfortably take a shower afterwards. Again, when starting out, the key is to relax. So be gentle! Start with a finger. If the dildo is too big, don’t force it. Just rub your hole gently and try to get it to relax. If it goes in, it’s pretty common for it to not want to go in all the way and to feel blocked about 4 inches in. That’s because there’s a muscle that goes around your rectum that helps you pooand needs to relax. Don’t force it! Just take toy as far as it will comfortably go, hold it there for a few seconds, pull it out a bit, and repeat. Eventually, your body will relax, maybe after a few sessions, and then it will just slip in. Remember, there’s no reason you have to take the whole length of the dildo. As for positions, a lot of the fun is discovering what works for you, and it’s different for everyone. Anal play is, in my experience, incredibly gratifying. And, as you gain experience, you’ll find what works for you. Good luck and have fun!
