These don't work because the microphone has a TRS plug which carries the audio on the tip and ring with the sleeve being the ground. This is the type of plug used on most camcorders and that mic works properly with them. Phones require a TRRS plug with two rings. For those plugs, the headphone left and right channels are on the tip and first ring, the 2nd ring is ground, and the sleeve carries the microphone signal. There are adapters available to use that mic with a phone. Here's one that should work.
