If you don't have time for drying then switch your towel to a microfiber one. I use these. They're nice and big and way more absorbent than regular towels. I flip my head over and scrunch with it, but hold each scrunch for a longer time than usual until I feel the water start soaking through. Rinse and repeat using different areas of the towel until you no longer feel water soaking through. Make sure you get as close to your scalp as possible for maximum drying. I'm an air dryer and doing this makes things go much faster, plus it's more gentle on my hair. Bonus for multitasking with the scrunching (I put my conditioning products in before towelling.) If I have time then I will also air diffuse my scalp but when I don't have time, this works. I think doing this will help a lot with your hair.
