If you want to understand attachment, I'd recommend this book. This is not a pop psychology book though, it's an academic book. Granted it's mostly for people that actually work in psychology, but there's nothing wrong with casual readers reading it. It does a relatively good job explaining attachment related information in a digestible format without overwhelming the reader with neuroscientific facts. Assessing Adult Attachment

Explaining the dynamic maturational model of attachment is not something I can do in a comment. I simplified it into cognitive information processing (avoidant) and affect information processing (anxious). Disorganized attachment oscillate between the two types of information processing while secure attachment strategies have both information processing integrated.
