I understand you’re not confident enough to wire it to the fuse box, but no worries, I personally don’t see much of a point to that with a radar detector. I did it with my dash cam, but only so I’d have parking mode features. I’d encourage you to research “mirror taps” for radar detectors. It is two pins that you plug into a wire harness behind your mirror, and the other end plugs right into the RD. It is incredibly simple, and a much cleaner installation. It’s like those old commercials; “so easy even a caveman could do it”. I’d also encourage you to “mirror mount” the radar detector.
