Oh god people need to calm down. It sounds like this person is doing their best and giving this horse a good home. People have owned horses like this for forever. Just because someone doesn’t meet your standards of care doesn’t immediately mean they are an unfit owner. OP I do hope you have someone advising you on feed, feet, upkeep etc. but it sounds like you’re dedicated to taking care of your mare and bring her along. Okay back to the no bit thing. I had a similar horse, hated a bit, I rode him in a bitless bridle similar to the one below and he was very happy and we had a lot of fun together.
