It's a type of alcove lighting effect, thought I've never seen it around a kitchen island. I typically see it built into crown molding or baseboards. to do this, you'll want to look up led light channels. Typically they are made of aluminum with backs and sides and frosted plastic covers. (Pro tip: Never line up the aluminum channel seam with the plastic cover seam. This ensures an almost seamless look to the channels.) The type of LED strip to use inside them depends on the desired effect, but I'd recommend tunable white 2700k-5000k strips. RGBW strips are fun if you want them to do color effects. You'd need an LED controller for that plus maybe a 12 volt power supply and you'll need mains power into the island for this. I'd recommend an ESP32 controller module with WLED pre-installed. Or for user friendliness, get a Govee light strip and controller so you can control it with your phone. Just make sure that whatever strip you use has a high LED per meter count. You want the entire channel to glow uniformly, and to do that requires the LEDs to be close together. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=led+light+channelhttps://www.amazon.com/BTF-LIGHTING-Temperature-2700K-6500K-Multi-Colored-Controller/dp/B0FMJXDNZThttps://www.amazon.com/BTF-LIGHTING-Controller-Dynamic-Download-Addressable/dp/B0FB38FDCShttps://www.amazon.com/Govee-Assistant-Changing-Bedroom-Christmas/dp/B0D7MKV1CK
