My wife wrote a graphic novel last year called Bones of the Voyage. She wrote, edited and financed the whole thing herself (she even created the font used), and hired a very talented artist to do all of art, meaning this is as obscure and indie as you get and there was ZERO AI used in its creation. It’s so well drawn and put together that it holds up next more commercial fare but with the spirit of a true passion project. I think it’s up your alley based on what you’re asking for. The plot revolves around a group of independent film makers as they tackle their latest project. Their director is stricken by depression, which is personified by a wise-cracking skeleton, who revels in torturing her. The book is really funny while also tackling serious subjects. It’s paced well, like a good movie, with complex themes and good character development. The art inside is absolutely gorgeous. I know it’s easy to go with traditionally published books, but please consider giving the book a chance. It has the production and artistic quality of a mainstream book but made entirely with an independent spirit. If you or anyone else have any questions before committing, please feel free to reach out to me!
