the same stuff would have been $287 That isn't what the comment I replied to said. They said you can't get out of REI with a tent and two pairs of shoes for less than $1k. Even being hyperbolic, that's absolutely unfounded. By the way, that canopy being a necessity I mentioned? I know it's useful because my first trip out, it rained the whole time. I went out that morning and bought an ozark trail canopy. After about four trips, it was falling apart and I trashed it. I also bought an ozark trails cooler on that same trip. It fucking sucks and can't even keep my drinks cold through lunch, even with high-quality freezer packs. Ozark trails is cheap, and you get cheap quality for it. You absolutely can buy there. Doesn't mean it's the only option. It's useful when it's useful, not as a catch-all alternative to REI or anywhere else. I personally listed two other stores I think are better than REI. But REI has a lot more value than "Go in with $1k, leave with a tent and a pair of shoes" By the way The coleman sundome is currently $150 at wal-mart, which is more than half your $287 budget, and currently about thirty dollars more than what it's going for at REI (REI is offering a newer model, too, not backstock). Wal-mart also doesn't give you a year return policy, either. Wal-mart is fine for some stuff. I wouldn't buy anything that needs any sort of quality there, especially as a new-timer when you don't really know what you need. e: lol instant downvoted for pointing out that wal-mart isn't the best option for everyone, and isn't even necessarily the cheapest option. Be mad all you want, dude.
