Sounds like a good idea, I used to do similar for old gramophones and speakers etc. years ago, I'd normally remove the rusted innards (leaving the original speakers) and put a small power supply and amplifier in, its a lot more flexible now days, depending on the speaker, I'd probably use a small amp which I'd want for basic remote volume control and and something like a Raspberry Pi so I could stream or play direct from SD card etc., it wouldn't be hard to connect it to cloud storage or NAS etc. so the Pi installation could be as simple as possible. It would probably be a really cool piece of furniture. Oops - forgot to post an amp link, I'd use amps similar to this (not BT in the old days), I've still got a speaker cabinet with two hand wound Wharfdale speakers, I met the person who wound the voice coils, we probably got these speakers about 55 years ago, they've got a 15W amp in and I used to plug my Wersi portable organ into them. https://www.amazon.co.uk/DollaTek-Bluetooth-Amplifier-TPA3116D2-Amplificador/dp/B083QF164T?xpid=Ac2lP-4fZgrgr
