My Gracie was also extremely food motivated and would get into the garbage just like this. She figured out how to open the hand waive trash with her nose. She then figured out how the step pedals to open the cans worked. The only thing that would stop her was baby gates. I suggest not locking the gates into doorways, this way when she gets her nose or paws over to nudge them, she would knock them over and scare her. Once the baby gates were on the ground she wouldn’t go anywhere near them. After a while I could lean the baby gate against the trash can and she would keep a 3-4 foot distance. Gracie’s stomach was opened twice to remove stuff she shouldn’t have eaten. 6k in vet bills the first time and 5k the second time. Once was a corn cob and the second time was an empty tube of denture glue (when grandma was watching her) she ate the tube and all! This treat dispensing toy was a life saver.
