Human authority is given by God in the texts the Rabbis quoted. They voted and the majority disagreed with the dissenting miracle working Rabbi. Now a bat lol was heard settling a dispute much earlier between the school of Shammai and the school of Hillel. They disagreed often. Shammai chased away the Gentile who wanted to learn the Torah while standing on one foot. Hillel simply said "Do not do to others what is hateful to you. The rest is commentary, go and study". But the bat kol (daughter of a voice) resolved their dispute by saying :Both these abd these are the words of the Living God". I could look it up at Sefaria too, but relying on memory. Decades before Sefaria, my liberal Torah study was via Urbach's "The Sages: Their Concepts and Beliefs". https://a.co/d/0ccCTWiv
