my cat is the exact same way— also used to be a stray and still adjusting to indoor life. for toys, he doesn’t have any interest in mice, springs, balls… anything that he has to bat around himself. BUT if it’s a feather on a string, or something that already is moving, he’s all about it. i figured out that he really is only interested in things that are already in motion bc it’s likely what they had to do in the wild to survive — hunt something small that’s moving. other things he loves for mental stimulation (pretty much got them all on amazon): window hammock. he could watch the birds all day and great for naps: https://a.co/d/03jSmBXb pulley toy that goes on the floor, you can attach little “mice” to it and set it up wherever you want, gives the illusion of a running mouse: https://a.co/d/02O9quxZ tunnels or anything he can hide in to “sneak attack” his other toys, great for their hunting instincts: https://a.co/d/088em8Fv strays are typically very food motivated since they faced so much food scarcity. i give him treat puzzles every other day or so and he loves it: https://a.co/d/0fiWnyRB, https://a.co/d/05wCzhsx or snuffle mats, etc simulate hunting in the wild: https://a.co/d/08cfIrZl kind of a rare thing but sometimes ill train him to do tricks with a clicker, again food motivated cats can actually learn much quicker than you think! https://a.co/d/0iQDg7zf (i got these treats for clicker training - you can cut them really small and turn 1 stick into 25 smaller treats: https://a.co/d/0beTz3Bk)
