A standard garage door uses a pushbutton to operate the door. Push the button, and the button contacts close. This tells the controller to operate (open or close the door). So you want to identify the two terminals on your garage door opener that the pushbutton wires are connected to. You want to connect the relay normally open contacts to these two terminals in addition to the existing pushbutton wires. Then if the relay is energized for one second, the relay contacts close for one second and the garage door will operate. The pushbutton continues to operate normally. The relay has 4 connections you will use. Two to operate the relay coil. And two for the normally open contact connection.. I mounted the relay directly to the side of my garage door opener using double sided adhesive tape. I used two 22 gauge wires about 18 inches long. I connected the two spade terminals for the relay contacts to one end of each wire. I pushed the spade terminals into the two normally open contact terminals on the relay.. The other end of each wire was connected to the two terminals that your garage door opener that the pushbutton wires are connected to I had an old 120 vac power cord lying around. i cut it to the length I wanted and connected two spade terminals to one end of the cord . I pushed the spade terminals into the two relay coil terminals. I plugged the other end of the power cord into a tapo smart outlet. Next I created a shortcut in the Tapo app. The shortcut will turn on the Tapo smart plug, then delay one second, then turn off the smart plug. This emulates a one second pushbutton actuation and operates the garage door. Your existing pushbutton continues to work in parallel. I also used some shrink wrap to insulate the 120 volt wire terminals on the relay. Bonus, if you have an iphone, you can easily create an ios shortcut that runs your Tapo shortcut.I put the shortcut on my iphone home screen. This allows me to open/close the garage door without opening the Tapo app This is the relay I purchased: https://a.co/d/05nUtJvf
