These pads have served us well through two kids. We use a standard matress protector and then this under the sheet. Pull up size is definitely a factor though, peeing out is often an indicator they need the next size up. Also curtailing the intake closer to bedtime and making sure they go before getting into bed is are mission critical. Good luck
