I didn’t see anyone mention this, so I want to plug one of my favorite pedagogy books, Reading Shakespeare with Young Adults. It transformed how I teach Shakespeare. I spent almost fifteen years teaching in title I schools, and now I teach at a magnet school. Either place, it’s been essential. Without a doubt it’s my favorite unit each year. I do R&J with my freshmen and Julius Caesar with my sophomores. It won’t help you this year, probably. But it will make next year and all the rest better.
