Personally, I wouldn't leave something behind that you enjoy just to save a few ounces. I love the UL ethos, but it's a means to an end for me, not the end itself. But since there aren't a lot of adjustments that can be made to your kit without replacing gear, I pointed out that it's optional. I bring a camp chair along even though it's one of my heavier items, because the comfort and convenience that it provides are worth the weight to me. If we're disciplined about our overall kit, then it provides some leeway with the luxuries. Maybe TMI, but I use a little bidet spigot on a spare smartwater bottle too. That helps reduce the number of wipe pellets that you need to bring along, and it also helps to keep you fresher. It only weighs 0.42 oz, and I really dislike not having a bidet when I'm away from home. Enjoy your trip! I can't wait to get out to that trail myself next summer. My son and I are training this summer and then hitting the JMT next summer.
Hell yeah girl. Love that you’re taking those girls backpacking! And love that you’re not gatekeeping! I like Columbia a lot. I tried to convince myself I could go backpacking in “natural fibers” last year. My fucking linen pants gave me so much chafing under my backsweat! My no gatekeeping backpacking tool is this bidet that attaches to any water bottle. Makes pooping in the woods so much better. Also doubles as a way to take an easy shower. https://www.amazon.com/CuloClean-Portable-Compatible-Discreet-ecological/dp/B07L448T4K/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.py4irSeYGZeFTVrIhKQC7oV-fspL4FubV-GrpqH7DcOXn0Z8XMUPkiWbF5Z-r2Zzl_ttFx_iMbVFb-PbOLbIzJ-_Z9WcQmmyNQIXuRvfuoX57bf52FxdBmFOz6A1yB5qAJIHezJHspwnLafVW9JyMKYJ2_K6qQiBNwTonvz_HVKBlG7Uv99_0c1sVchzsq0Qki8o6cYXwnl6HZnCcf5XCQ.q8_PyhLB0Lo23sIqNgg18v23MhM1Oj9eqjwU0L_3quo&dib_tag=se&keywords=ultralight+backpacking+bidet&qid=1781837084&sr=8-1
