TLDR: Consider just replacing the reel and line. The world is your oyster when it comes to different lines and I’ll let the reel (pun intended) experts weigh in on what’s best. I bought my sun a profishiency micro splatter for his first spinning combo. The reel was garbage and broke before first use (top of the spool stripped and wouldn’t reattach), but the rod itself seems decent. I picked up a Daiwa Crossfire reel (https://a.co/d/0fs0Ni5U) for $35 on Amazon, spooled it with mono backing ($10 - https://a.co/d/08IoXdrU), braid mainline ($15 - https://a.co/d/00pgX5VR), and fluorocarbon leader ($15 - https://a.co/d/0b5u0tUv) and have been very happy with how it turned out. I also realize that if someone had told me to buy three different lines to spool one reel when I was first starting, I’d have looked at them like they had a hole in their head :). I recently put together my first bait casting setup and bought this $10 giant spool of yo-zuri hybrid line (https://a.co/d/03Caz9q2) so I wouldn’t feel bad when I had to cut some inevitable birds nests out. I’ve only used it a few times, but it’s honestly been fine. It’s also easier to spool because you’re not having to tie FG knots for the mono backing + braid main + flouro leader. I found this video to be very helpful in learning to spool. If you go with one line type, you just use the mono process and keep spooling :). https://youtu.be/RsqiufJMGbI?is=ftd3CjSlTDEY3l4T Happy fishing!
