Interesting project - to answer one of your last questions, no I don't think lots of people would wear these... maybe you could find a niche in ultra-premium segments (imagine Milan fashion shows where brands are scrolling across the eyewear...), but for everyday use this is impractical. #1 reason is that you will have this pattern directly in your field of view - there's not really a great way to do this (without dramatically tinting the front of the glasses) without the pattern being visible by the wearer as well. In terms of quickly prototyping it, for the static version: if you have access to a laser cutter, you can just cut out the shape of your lens (whichever glass / sunglass you trial with) and on the inside of that cutout play around with the laser power to just 'etch' the star pattern you show here. This is the type of film you could do this with: https://www.amazon.com/Adhesive-Laminating-12-Waterproof-Documents/dp/B0CKZ3PXN5 For an actual electronic pattern, prototyping is harder... there's many ways to do it, but I would just buy a cheapo pair of smart glasses (see the video I just did here: https://youtu.be/TTCX42UpMBw) and project the pattern you want there - it will be visible from the front because the waveguide also projects light outside to the world.
