I have a 2003 water heater and have flushed it regularly about once a year but have only seen maybe a cup of granules each time. Hence why I do it once yearly and not shorter. However, my household is 2 adults and I take cold showers so it may not have a lot of water going through. Based on mine, I wouldn’t stress. . . But remember your anode rod too! I installed an integrated ball valve to make it easy to flush:https://www.amazon.com/Upgrade-Heater-Full-Port-Valves-Connection/dp/B0F12QZ1Z2
