As for the outside box, could be litter if scented, i personally always buy unscented and put litter baking soda at the bottom of my litter box. Also, my cat peed outside the box before, he was very dehydrated and had trouble peeing comfortablly. Poop outside was only when he was constipated and would hold the poop in for as long as he can lol (solved with 1/4 teaspoon of miralax in his food per my vet’s instructions)
