Source of the photo is this book. This post shows Schuster alive, shaking hands with the police commissioner. He was lauded as a hero for recognizing the bank robber, and appeared on TV. The book says nobody ever thought the bank robber himself was involved in Schuster's death; the man was in jail at the time, he had never been violent in any of his bank robberies, he seemed horrified by the murder and he offered to contribute $10k of his own money to the reward fund. Instead, mobster Albert Anastasia (who was not associated with the bank robber in any way) is believed to have been behind the killing. A decade later, one of Anastasia's associates told police that Anastasia saw Schuster's TV appearance and exclaimed, "I can't stand squealers!" and then ordered the hit. By the time the police got this information, Anastasia had himself become the victim of a contract killing.
