I've been looking into this for a different problem on my 9-3, the OBDlink SX seems to be discontinued? Or something? I found an ObdLink EX on amazon and it says it's optimized for ForScan. I just want to make sure this one is the right one. Thank you!

FORscan recommend the OBDlink MX+ https://a.co/d/0gBt1bJx or OBDlink EX https://a.co/d/03YqFyqU they say the EX is safer for programming because its connected via usb with a cable but i used the MX+ via bluetooth and it worked but i would recommend the EX if you are not sure of the stability of the bluetooth on your laptop

I just did this a few months ago in my 2015 Ford Explorer Limited. I went onto B-Parts (Or any junkyard site) and found myself a screen for maybe 100 bucks. Junkyard would be the better option because normally they won't take the time to pull the computer off of the back, like a lot of ebay sellers will (you need the computer). Additionally, one pulled from a car will most likely include satellite maps, whereas aftermarket will have it as an "add on" for like 100 bucks more. Any explorer 2017-2020 screen will work, with 2020> having workarounds but generally much harder (AFAIK!!). Next you'll need a GPS antenna that you can use magnet to put in behind the screen, theyre generally 15 dollars. You'll also need a proper sync 3 usb hub, with an adapter for power, costs about 80 there as well. You'll need a ForScan OBD to USB adapter and a Laptop. Theres programming you can follow on CyanLabs as well as some updating software for download as well, to update the screen. I will send links to mostly everything I can below. For the record, park assist will not work unless you update those specific modules and theres not very much documentation on that, and I don't use it so I never bothered. All sensors will still work you just won't get instructions on the screen. Everything else was perfectly smooth, with programming being tedious but fun. Very rewarding process. You can follow tutorials meant for the expensive kits just the same, only difference being programming aspect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXJTo5sP6Is Sync 3 Screen and APIM Computer: Find this on a junkyard website, only explorers 2017 and past USB Hub: https://www.fordpartsgiant.com/parts/ford-module-interface_hc3z-19a387-c.html USB Hub Power Adapter: https://www.amazon.com/Bestycar-Harness-Adapter-Retrofit-Wiring/dp/B09DPTK1T6 GPS Antenna: https://a.co/d/0fHBq7u0 Forscan: https://forscan.org/ (trial is free when you enter your cars VIN) Forscan adapter: https://a.co/d/0bnGBpMY (dude dont cheap out on this because shitty ones can brick your modules) CyanLabs https://cyanlabs.net/ Takes a bit of research to understand how AsBuilt programming works, and my post is already very long. If you would like to know my very little knowledge on how I did it just shoot a reply tldr: all in about 350, easy install, tedious programming, great result any questions or if you are invested in doing this I am happy to help!!!!
