This won’t be right for everyone (and certainly it means purchasing STUFF, which I try not to recommend for solving household process/organization issues), but our family has like 12 of the same white Sterlite stackable laundry basket (they came in packs of 6 on Amazon; looks like this is the new version of what I have) Each bedroom usually has two (one collecting laundry and another underneath) so that when we bring down laundry to the laundry room, there’s still one in the bedroom for laundry. Then we have a couple in the laundry room to sort into colors/loads and then they go in a queue. When full, I can loosely stack them vertically as well.
