I use this smart switch: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RRVKL3S My Bianca turns on about an hour before I get up (in case I get up a little early). Then, when I pull my last shot of the day, I just push the little button on the smart switch to turn the machine off. It'll automatically turn my Bianca on again the next day. When I'm going to be away for multiple days I'll turn the machine off from the normal power button on the front of the machine. It's an easy system and I always have a toasty warm machine and rack of cups. Flow control is intuitive but if I were you I'd start with straight shots and no flow control until I was getting some good results that way. By then you'll probably have a feel for when you should use flow control. Since I don't drink milk drinks I don't use the steam boiler and I don't plumb in either. The only reason I got the Bianca over the Elizabeth is that the Bianca's quiet rotary pump sounds so much nicer than a vibratory pump. It really does make a difference to me.
