Ok, after an unhealthy amount of time looking at shopvacs excuse me wet/dry vacuums, my conclusion is: What I should do is go to Lowes and pick up a Dewalt DXV16 or DXV12 StealthSucker or whatever the actual name is. Very quiet (claims 65 dB), robust, under $200 (16 gal) or $120 (12 gal), 2.5” hose to suck up gloop and rocks. Plenty of good shopvacs out there, but the relatively lower noise level available from Dewalt is a distinguishing feature. What I want to do is get one of the all-singing-all-dancing wet-dry-dust extractors like the Karcher, Stihl, Fein, or here is an interesting one, the Dapper https://a.co/d/0dfIDKF2 But like the Rolling Stones said, you can’t always get want you want, but you can get what you need. What I need is a fat hose rock sucker-upper, and to not spend $500 for a 1.25” hose HEPA dust collector. Dewalt DXV16 on order! Thank you everyone. Especially thank you to the Rigid fans, for tolerating my invective. Current-day Rigid shopvacs may indeed be fine, but I have too much PTSD to go there right now.
