They also make your bag look like crap so it's great for transit in country too. When you take busses or cars your bag stays intact really well. They were bigger than our pack so it was handy to throw in extra things if you needed to. Make sure your backpack has a thick waist strap. I'm 5' tall and when a pack is full, it tips you backwards. So it's important to have it tightly anchored to your waist. We used these packs and I loved them. I've used a more traditional pack before for two trips totalling a year long, but I preferred this one. I esp liked how it opened like a typical suitcase.
