I had a hemorrhoidectomy a few years back. Trust me, worst kind of pain ever and here's what I did to manage it: 20-min baths every hour or two, as hot/warm as you can stand it. Three (3) ibuprofen tablets (200mg ea) plus two acetaminophen capsules (500mg ea) every 6 hours, as recommended by the surgeon Before surgery, I found the best care for an external hemorrhoid was frequent baths and manual massage of the hemorrhoid. When you can stand it, do your best to push it back inside your anus. The only OTC medicine I found somewhat relieved my symptoms was Recticare: Amazon.com: Recticare Advanced Hemorrhoidal Cream 30g - 4-1 Symptom Relief: Relieves Pain, Itching, Burning & Swelling - Max Strength Lidocaine & Phenylephrine : Health & Household My son swears by Witch Hazel, which did not do much for me. Get some fiber supplements and figure out what in your diet slows down your digestion. White flour, white rice, white potatoes are my cloggers; they may not be yours. The fiber supplements that work best for me are Walmart's Daily Fiber Gummies (chicory root fiber); Costco's fiber gummies didn't work for me. Every body is different. You can manage this and, hopefully, avoid surgery.
