I hate that this is causing you stress. A couple of thoughts that I hope will help. (I'm assuming you are an incoming freshman and will be figuring out some things as you go). Use the buddy system. Don't go to the showers alone. I am sure that other new students will feel the same way about this set up and feel safer going to the showers with friends. My daughter lives in the dorms her 1st year and always went to the showers with a friend. Keep OC spray in your shower gear (you should also carry one with you on campus. Keep it on you and easily accesible. OC in your purse or backpack is not easily accessible. Same with the type that is clipped into something). My daughter had a shower caddy that she carried her soap, shampoo, etc in, and kept OC spray in it too. Keep it in a spot where you can get it quick and place the caddy in the same spot each time so you know where your OC is. I'm not a big fan of the safety alarms that emit a piercing sound when activated, but I would keep one of those with you in the caddy too. The one in the link below can be attached to the caddy and activated by pulling on the lanyard. alarm Someone else mentioned shower shoes with a good grip. You don't want to be slipping on the wet floor, or sliding out of your flip flops in an emergency. I hope you get there and realize your worries were for nothing, but safety goes beyond one potential situation and I hope you will think about some of these things.
