A bad one is a dull blade, too easy to mess up or difficult to use. Average oddly is a little different. Most people buy the metal guillotine (straight cutter) to start. It usually has 2 blades and is sort of sharp these usually look nice while generally costing less than $10 average cigar cutter. The bad ones are the plastic ones with a single blade bad cigar cutter. I take these on planes as they tend to not get taken and if they are...usually they cost less than $4 so no loss. A good one is a cutter that is easy to get a good cut, and in the preferred style. In my case I bought a colibri V cutter. It is routinely on sale for about $50. I have personally had it fall off a truck, boat, ATV, and one really high up balcony. Mine is beat up, missing parts of the powder coat and STILL cuts like a champ. I hear very good things about Xikar but since I prefer V, Colibri is considered the best in V...that is what I got. I also have a perfecpunch and straight cutter for the new people who are unsure Colibri V cutter, Xikar (note I just pulled the first sites I found with around the $50 mark.) As a small aside, I have overactive saliva production and tend to salivate a lot when smoking. As such V cut is really the only way I can enjoy a smoke. The punch and straight get too wet and makes smoking hard.
