Newish myself and I wanna say it can be super overwhelming at first and it's totally normal to feel overwhelmed by the level of info but so rewarding when you finally dive in. If you have a local store you can go to id highly suggest that as they will have most of the stuff you need and can walk you through getting into the hobby barring that basic supplies I started with are -hobby knife https://a.co/d/0iyUtu1Q -glue https://a.co/d/05uWKonq -sprue cutter https://a.co/d/0f7ZQtae Brushes I'd start with 3 basic ones a medium tip just standard brush a fine tip and round brush for dry brushing old makeup brushes work very well for this also and I'd honestly go to an art supply store not a hobby store as you can usually find better brushes for cheaper For selecting a model especially for thousand sons I'd go our standard rubric marines they are forgiving build wise and fun to paint with lots of details and used in almost every list. When you are ready to start getting paints use the Warhammer color app you don't have to follow the exact colors there but it will give you an idea of how many paints you need and where to place them and you can then start creating a custom color scheme from that you will also probably run into mid painting realizing you forgot one or you need another color to put here or another shade of this and that just be forgiving with yourself this is for enjoyment. I am blessed by the changer to have a store 3 mins down the road and the amount of times on my hobby days I'll literally have to drive back after a few hours and the staff will mildly blow me shit has become a ritual of my painting days for me. Have fun and just watch plenty of YouTube there is hella resources out there and you'll find creators you vibe with.

i recommend purchasing an exacto knife. like this one it makes getting rid of those nubs very easy. however, one thing i will say, all the guides will tell you to use the snippers and then sand down the nub that is left over. which is correct for any nipper of any type. however! my personal recommendation is get yourself a Godhand nipper and nip from the sprue as close to the part as you feel comfortable. with the way it's built where the blade is essentially a flat plane, you can nip right flush with the part directly from the sprue with very little to no chance of getting the part itself by accident. and then use the exacto knife to "shave" the nub that might be left over.
