My wife is an elementary school teacher with school issued MBA M1 that she uses in the classroom. At home, I set her up with M4 Mac mini 16/512GB which I got with teacher's edu discount from apple. I would not recommend going with 256gb hard drive if you buy from another computer store will older stock still available. Yes, you can get an external hard drive to store large files but I try to make my wife's computing as simple as possible. That said, I do have a 2TB hard drive attached back when NVME storage was much cheaper. She uses a 24" monitor paired with apple keyboard and Logitech mouse. At this point, I would not recommend a combined unit like the iMac anymore as often the display is good but the computer is just too slow. I've upgraded my wife from M1 Mac mini to the M4 she has right now with all there peripherals.
