It was possible... I mean, not a gaming laptop, but business laptops like this one from HP that's $1069 right now and has 32gb RAM and 2tb SSD. Before RAMpocalypse it use to go around $800 and as low as $700. Is not as powerful, of course, but it has expensive parts like screen, battery and more RAM, so maybe $800 for the 2tb Steam Machine was not that crazy in a better 2025 world.
