Well I’m familiar with this kind of set up: https://www.amazon.com/BEYIMEI-Controller-Expansion-Non-Raid-Profile/dp/B097Y638X7 and it mostly works. But they don’t support SAS, it’s common for SMART data access to be “flakey” and in my case, a problem with *any* drive meant all of them would get a hard reset. Guess what that does to your ZFS pool? At least I was able to import it again and do a scrub. Do that more than 1 or 2 times and getting the actual HBA and the cables suddenly seems like a good idea. :] I still have a card like this for “back’s against the wall” emergencies but I’m not likely to buy another one.
