The windows in our house aren’t sash type, they have a crank and they swing out like a double door would. So we just opened one side of the window, and have the tube vent out. They’re a little noisy, but it’s not the worst thing ever. And they will definitely keep you cool

You shouldn’t have to but it’s going to be a seriously hot summer waiting for a property management company to fix it. I had a similar problem in an apartment. Took them 5 years to get a fully functional AC unit in and then I moved right after. They said it was the thermostat too… every year that I complained. Two years in a friend gave me a portable A/C and it made living there bearable. The portable A/C was better than a window unit in my opinion. https://a.co/d/0bfAhO06
Many portable ACs have a plastic insert that goes into the window you "seal" shut. The AC unit doesn't sit in the window but has a hose that connects to the insert exhausting the hot air from the compressor. Link to example: https://a.co/d/06AMqVPV Look at the 4th or 5th picture to see what I mean
