I can attest to this! I have this one and the other side of the grill is flat. The only complaint is that the top doesn't get as hot as the bottom plate. This is a common complaint with this one though, not sure if it's universal. You can get a decent "sear" but not a char like a real grill. I haven't tried it with tofu yet, that's a good idea!
