I am not elementary so I cannot give you too much feedback there. But.. Do not put your work email on your personal devices. One because your personal devices can be subpoenaed if they have student information on them and two because you need to maintain a boundary between personal and home life. Leave work at work, answer emails when you are on the clock. You are not paid to burn yourself out. DO NOT spend money on your classroom right now. Wait until you have access to your classroom. The previous teacher will have left things behind. As summer wraps up, other teachers will be coming in to setup their rooms. They usually will give away anything that they no longer want or need for other teachers to take. Also, you need to see what kind of materials and budget to order stuff your department/grade has available to them. That said, if you have to spend money, focus on the following first: A very good chair. I have an expensive gaming chair that is my desk chair and it is worth every cent. Just be prepared to take it home every summer as they can and do get 'misplaced' sometimes. A very good pair of shoes that you can walk around in nonstop because you will constantly be on your feet. I personally am always recommending ASICS Gel Nimbus running shoe-the sole has such a magnificent cushion to it. A good planner in a layout and format that you think will be most beneficial. I like Big Happy Planner because I can add remove pages as needed and buy cheap offbrand refills on Amazon each year. If you want to add your own pages you would need their hole punch which is a bit pricey. A set of pens and highlighters that you will enjoy using-but make sure they are ones you are okay with a student or coworker walking off with.
