Steve Bruce' book God is Dead: Secularization in the West (Religion and Spirituality in the Modern World) seems to be the most authoritative and meticulous defense of the secularization thesis, and seems to actually engage with Stark's empirical claims at length. But I'd have to take many days to read them to find out which one I think is right. https://www.amazon.com/God-Dead-Secularization-Steve-Bruce/dp/0631232753
