Something very similar happened to me and had to take the Tesla driver to small claims court in Florida . I provided my dash footage front / inside of my vehicle / and rear view of my vehicle and it saved a ton of time and was eventually able to win my case as they too were being dodgy with supplying the Tesla vehicles exterior camera footage . My cars damage was structural damage and the Tesla insurance ended up paying out pretty decent just enough to almost cover my cars worth .
That I am not sure. However, I heard that the power from the humidity sensor is enough to power it, and so is the camera, and many people are using them to power it up the dashcams. My neighbor that has a new Kona Sel, uses it just fine with the camera. It is just a matter of getting the right dongar or competitor versions for it, which you can find in their website.
