You can do a more powerful build for less than $1k if you don’t need the small form factor. I literally spec’d it out a few days ago. Not sure if the prices are the same at the moment but this build came out to around $950 (or $915 if you go with a cheaper case) and has more storage: $55 - Thermaltake 700w PSU $90 - Corsair 4000D case (I have one of these, good airflow and easy build space). This is a place you could skimp to save a few bucks, e.g. - this case is $55 $130 - Cheap 1 TB SSD (went with Timetec, apparently Fikwot is okay too, seems to be a SSD parts manufacturer that started selling direct) $85 - B550 ATX mobo $130 - G.Skill 16 GB DDR4 3200 $175 - Ryzen 5 5600 XT OR Ryzen 7 5700 (5600 is faster but 6c/12t, 5700 lower core speed, but 8c/16t. I have a 5600x, no complaints) $279 or $290 - RX 7600 GPU, or RTX 5050 (up to preference. The 7600 is generally comparable or slightly better overall, but you will see much better with it on Linux. On Windows the 5050 might be the better choice) This was using all new parts from Amazon, without making an effort to find the cheapest parts with PCPartPicker, or buying anything used on eBay (which would definitely increase savings, by possibly $120 or more).

https://a.co/d/0fEvcrVt Heres an affordable msi board that should work if you just want to get the pc going again. I would recommend a second opinion because a power supply could also be a possibility but if you got the money to throw at it and would like a motherboard with a couple of updated features its worth the upgrade.

Hm , so I would have to be patient to get that $150 combo,. I'm tempted to buy from a stable listing, I guess. What do you think of this combo for $270, mix of new and used? Part Price Store lLink Cooler 18 Thermalright Amazon Ryzen 5 5600 116-104 Aliexpress Mobo 80 Good 16 GB DDR4 3200 (USED) 65 ebay So its 270, ouch, but do you think it's a decent deal? I searched r/hardswap for R5-5600 specifically and there's not too many listings. If this used bundle ($350 OBO for all of above + 500GB SSD ) was still available I'd probably go for it offering 260-270 ig: https://www.reddit.com/r/hardwareswap/comments/1s0aljs/usapa_h_msi_mpg_x570_gaming_plus_mobo5600p2_nvme/ Otherwise patience/luck can get me a better deal, waiting for used parts, checking daily, on r/hardwareswap The problem I have (overthinking/anxiety speaking) is there's so many other processors avail, maybe I can search other CPUs for a better deal on occasion. R5-5600 seems nice tho. It just isn't posted much on hardwareswap.
