11' onewind hammock. and 11' hexagonal wise owl tarp. you'll be over budget by about $45, but there will be no need to upgrade those if you're not backpacking. I'm now on year 4 of both of those products (12' hammock) and they show no sign of slowing. yes I love my dream hammocks and warbonnet tarps, but these things will last ages. what is your plan for insulation?

you backpack but don't have a quilt or sleeping bag? first off, where in norcal? when? you will need insulation. do you have an insulated sleeping pad? toss that in the hammock. whatever top insulation you can find plus your layers if the temperature is mild (40s F) wise owl hammock tarp ~$40 on amazon onewind aerie hammock ~$60

Here is my piecemeal gearlist for around 150. Hammock - https://simplylightdesigns.com/collections/hammocks/products/the-starter 70 bucks, choose your length and fabric size. Minimum 11 feet long imo. The fabric you choose is based on your height and weight. Some fabrics are wider than others. Wider fabrics might be more comfortable, depending how tall you are. Choose cinch buckle suspension. This hammock is super high quality for the price and could easily last you many years. If you have questions, you can ask me or email Jared at simply light designs. Tarp - You want one that's at least 11 feet long. https://www.amazon.com/Wise-Owl-Outfitters-Hammock-Rain/dp/B073GQXMM9?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.opWopYveLAd2R960Sx_nYVz1nmbY4N_KB-5x2Vjvc-85i5GXo0AB3Rdp084oPwaONJ4VTjkd4dPfncHige40d6gShJusxl_AQuMeXyOKtKAJIpodG6HXXgPAEFIfa3d1h1-VgykLg3i-CMprTNkKrj3o0w8o0tH3AvzuOJxItTJ3Z72AqxVw_9GJV0AsZHXvzqQbS1LnIO5NDSR7WKFDyGFo7jn7JVVZHeeT_APCAwg.kKtkkOnuzlAFEQP_eZIn8Y15wqPQ1u-e-XM3ZSq8ius&dib_tag=se&keywords=hammock%2Btarp&qid=1762757062&sr=8-1&th=1 It's 42 bucks, is a hex tarp, and has the seams taped so you don't have to seam seal it yourself. It's heavy but it's 42 bucks. Comes with stakes and all the lines you need to hang it. Tarp will last a long time because sil nylon is tough. You may have to tighten the guylines a bit after it rains to keep it taut, because silnylon absorbs water. Best value for the price I can find. Okay, this leaves us with 38 bucks to try and find you an underquilt. https://www.amazon.com/OneTigris-Hideout-Hammock-Underquilt-Essentials/dp/B08938G2DS?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.IbbKOv5OP6DQjQquMqiuwftIY507wGszNGTR1PahkO5kOYwKhCbI2e7h0iLp-UjCh5x_Pqdr7uc3nUebJxq1GzSx6hiYNtAQU-_5UiFGHzHBg7TPO1QGIgmwpFNaXoezVzsxkq0UZqK2a5XvJbcCO_P8wt9t9Y3EvMNdkWR0Pq8WCCn_xKZLHgDL-NgI_5Wz8YZPdjUQLmPf0aeXL-0ZvwjTFTrtrYyonqIS3kiOQYT-b0XqBYUNOGhqVMi0MEFMfAWsHgo9NjWnDrK22TAKL0p5b3S3w3dJjWLoa8ZwK54.a_L8nmWGk2O_mHQU8SQ7X3UDz27Lx6chZ8GGfXzn6eI&dib_tag=se&keywords=underquilt&qid=1762757724&sr=8-2&th=1 There is an underquilt here that is 37.99. I tried to find my old budget underquilt, the wise owl flare, but it doesn't seem to be made anymore. This set gives you everything you need, plus you have your own sleeping bag, for a little more than 150 USD. (tax plus misc shipping I'm guessing)
